Samosas? Anyone?
The reason muslims slaughter a goat or sheep for Eid ul-Adha is basically to remember the day when God asked the Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son. However God was testing his Prophet's obedience and even though Abraham agreed to do it, God had recieved the proof He needed and later on told him to instead sacrifice a sheep.
Gardens of Eden? Ok maybe not...
Now since Sweden doesn't allow ritual slaughtering or Halal slaughtering for that matter, I won't be giving you any meat this year (a reason to start lobbying the law makers?). Don't be alarmed if you happen to hear strange noises coming from your Pakistani neighbour, he's probably just slaughtering some sheep and chicken in his garden.

Zee: We get halal meat here mostly through importing it from our neighbour Denmark, where halal slaughtering is permitted. Otherwise Germany is a place we import from and also alot of turkish products.

Question: How do you go about the slaughtering part of Eid then?
Since you can't do it in Sweden, I'd recommend sending the money to someone you know living in say... Pakistan or India, where there is so much poverty that the cow or goat would really go towards helping a family out. That's what our family does. My dad tells me that there are places in those countries, where there is so much poverty that the only meat people can afford to eat comes from the sacrifices on Eid.
to suddenly have freaky noises coming from someone's garden is a little...umm...FREAKY? they should allow halal slaughtering in Sweden!!

MD: I agree they should allow halal slaughtering, We are working on the politicians but alas they think it's barbaric. As if...
Umar: Yes we usually send money to pakistan and my father's side takes care of the slaughtering and distributing. I lived in pakistan for nearly two years so I know about the poverty that exists there. It's something no one can ever imagine unless you see it.
We lived near a village within Peshawar called Takaal where afghan refugees have been settled for more than 20 years and they didn't even have shoes. Imagine small children walking barefoot on broken glass, garbage, 50 degrees celsius sun burning the ground. Well there's even worse cases than that. May Allah help us help them.
