Don't be such a turtle!

In Tanzania or Tanganyika as it is called in Swahili, a large population of Muslims live. Being almost half of the country's population, Ramadan of course does not go unnoticed.

Not every Muslim Tanzanian fasts, and for those that pretend to be fasting while secretly eating anyway, the Swahili speaking Tanzanians have given the name of Kasa which means Turtle. Perhaps because the turtle is both on land an in water and has a shell to hide under?

LOL! Kasa...sounds a bit like Cassa, which in Dutch means Cash.

The photo is stunning, love the contrasting shades of earthy brown and brilliant blue...it is breathtakingly beautiful!

"In Tanzania or Tanganyika as it is called in Swahili"

WHAT!?

Tanganyika was the name given the country today called Tanzania (not including Zanzibar), by the former British colonial powers.

"In 1964, it (Tanganyika) joined with the islands of Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, changed later in the year to the United Republic of Tanzania."

"Although Tanganyika still exists within Tanzania, the name is no longer used formally for the territory and its use can be politically sensitive, not only as throwback to colonial times, but also if it implies opposition to the union with Zanzibar."
