Lemongrass Update

In June I posted about Lemongrass (& Relationships). This is what it looks like now. A bit of TLC goes far for plants and humans alike.

Excellent!

I used to have a lemongrass plant in NZ - I loved growing my own herbs.

It is the best feeling growing them from seed to plant and using them in ones cooking! Like I did today, made a spinach, mushroom and feta pie with fresh basil. Care to join? :)

PS: (just read your post below) how did you TLC your swedish plant if you were in the UK?!
i wonder were u in london? don't u just love arab-spotting? i try to do that whenever i am in the capital!
you see in the UK there are pakis everywhere.. but for arabs they only come in the summer (or at least enough for them to be noticed) and there is nothing nicer than sitting in a car or bus (they never take public transport!) and arab spotting hehehehe

Well Buj, I am yet to use lemongrass in my cooking. Thai food uses it a lot and apparently there is a lemongrass soup recipee Kaya has been meaning to give to me...still waiting..

I was in London and outside as well. Arab spotting indeed! Especially around Edgeware Road.

Well I have TLC'd my plant in between all my globetrotting. Quality time...

I love lemongrass. I store a bunch in the freezer, strip it down to the inner white root, and chuck in about 2 stalks chopped up to a stirfry, perhaps with oyster sauce. yum!

yummy! So one doesn't use the actual green leaf in the soup then? or do you chop it all up and chuck it in? I love oyster sauce, makes all the difference!

Im not sure, but an recipes that I have read about just use the inside white stalk. Combine the oyster sauce with chicken stock, lots of veg, some sesame oil, and you have a good meal. Oh, and if you are using chicken make sure you marinate it in ken hom's marinade - the chicken comes out proper tender.

Yummy recipee GS, you are making me hungry and I just had sushi so that's quite something.

I was told one could make lemongrass tea using the actual green leaf part. Ever tried that? A squeeze of lemon with it as well.
