Welcome to Desi-stan

Can you guess where the following pictures are taken?
Urdu/Hindi lesson of the day: Mirch means chilli

A couple of Sikh gentlemen pulled out a table and chairs on the pavement and are having a little get together.

A Sikh school

Ambala sweet shop. The yummiest Methai place (Indian Sub-continent Sweets). Oh and they take online orders now. I recommend trying Gulab Jamun if you haven't already (eat them warm with coconut ice cream).

Now that's what a bus should look like! Equipped with the Pakistani flag and obligatory bling bling.

Interesting design of the rear, notice the number plate and rear lights.

This, my dear bloggers, was taken on my latest trip (one of the reasons I haven't posted in nearly a week). Oh and by the way, this is Southall, England! I have uploaded some desi songs for y'all on my stickam. Enjoy!

Good Picturs- your stickman still isnt working though.

upon tentative further investigation it has come to my attention that the evil stickam has been shunned by the one and only etisalat for being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates.

Shaykhspeara Sha'ira said...

Really? It's working here though. Anyone else having problems with it?

You have got to be kidding me....

I don't see Stickham either...

And I was going to guess somewhere in the UK... but you went and ruined the guessing game for us SS!

ohhh, hmmm perhaps I should remove the answer ey? sorry tainted loll

Me and games, we don't go along too well I think :)

Well according to D reb, Etisalat has blocked stickam?? Anyone know of a way to upload music that plays automatically in a "halal" UAE approved way?

hey SS.. just noticed it seems ur going to all these places around the globe.. lucky you..

hence that's why u haven't blogged about sweden in ages!!! (except that cool island place u guys have)

Oy sho hada? banning my stickam? tozz.

Well Ok, so I gave the guessing game away a little...the point was to look at the pics in general, which were all very desi oriented...and The UK would not be the first country one might have in mind... :)

Yeah a lot of travel lately. Haven't had time to talk sweden. Will soon, hopefully.

I LOVE THE BUS! Wouldn't have thought they'd have one of those in Southall!

Onto the topic under discussion... Stickam is not working on my computer either. I'm in HK. It shows up, but is always playing song '0 / 0'.

It just might be my office firewalls though. I have yet to check from a non-work computer.

Hey SS,

Just so you know, the stickam is working a-ok on my end. The music really brings it alive...I am busting a groove here, imagining myself cruisin' the Corniche in that bus-o-bling.

We had dinner on the pavement outside an Indian restaurant in the middle of Oxford on one of our recent London trips.

It was fun - hot vindaloo and warm evening temperatures!

Boo isn't the bus fabulous!!! I nearly choked when I saw it from the car I was in. Never in my wildest dreams thought they would actually import a bus like that to the UK! lol About the stickam, in the UAE it is blocked, rest of the world I cannot speak for.

Al Sinjab: Ah I am glad the stickam works atleast for some! :) Enjoy your ride! lol

NZM: Pavements are charming aren't they! lol I tell you, driving through southall I felt like a regular tourist. I don't look Pakistani at all (swedish genes and all) so I just walk there anonymously yet understanding everything they say lol I think I took pictures of everything...how sad I am! I miss Pakistan!

Mrs Redstar enjoys her Ambala sweets and I'm a fan now too.

It's time for 'Indian sweets' (as the Pakistani community I know calls them) to join the national psyche and take their place next to curry!

Shaykhspeara Sha'ira said...

Hello there redstar! Welcome to my world :)

Turned a fan have you? I am glad. In general they are too sweet but Jalebi, Gulab Jamun and Ras Malai are an exception.

I think most of the food from the sub continent is labelled Indian, because it is easier to relate to in the world, where you often say "indian curry" as opposed to "pakistani curry". Anyways at the end of the day, it is more or less, in certain areas the same food.
